The gorgeous 1997 Nine Popes (a blend of old vine Grenache, Syrah,
and Mourvedre) offers aromas of kirsch, cherry jam, raspberries,
roasted peanuts, and herbs, terrific fruit intensity, full body,
copious glycerin, and a mid-palate that suggests low yields and
old vines (80-100 year old Grenache vines). Beautifully made and
fun to drink, this is Australia's version of Chateauneuf du Pape.
Drink it over the next decade.

Shiraz, and Mourvedre) boasts a saturated ruby/purple color in addition

kirsch liqueur, pepper, spice, and earth. Full-bodied, fleshy,

it displays notes of kirsch, tapenade , blackberries, dusty loamy earth,
pepper, and spice. Rich, structured, intense flavors cascade over

BOUQUET
Ripe cherry, dark plum and floral fruit characters intermingled
with fennel and aniseed notes, complemented by subtle savoury spicy oak.
PALATE
Medium to full-bodied, showing ripe summer berries and spice complexity,
with sweet fruit on the finish. The silky smooth texture completes this
wine, which is beginning to show some desirable secondary characteristics
such as leather and forest floor, the result of seven months of bottle
aging prior to release.
ASSESSMENT
The fresh fruit flavours of this wine are best appreciated now while
attractive youthful characters are still at the fore. However, careful
cellaring will allow it to develop more complex secondary characters which
will reward the patient drinker.

The Hilltops Wine Region recently scored Top Golds at the London International Wine &
Spirit Competition - IWSC (one of the most important wine show in the world) and also
won the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy all in the spate of three years. This has now

The Werrington vineyard was planted in 1997 at approximately 1800 feet
